How to Make a Cheap Multitouch Pad – MTmini

-Software and Getting Started Guide at-

-What’s a MTmini?-
————————————-
A Multitouch Mini, MTmini for short, is a cheap, small, portable multitouch pad. It can be used for all different purposes including: drawing, OS navigation, multitouch operation, games, entertainment, experimentation, and more. I created the Multitouch Mini to show people how something that seems complicated or ‘magical’ can be made simply and at low cost.

-How’s it Work?-
————————————–
When you place your fingers on the surface, shadows are created where your fingers are placed. The webcam sees these shadows and sends the image to the tracking software which tracks the shadows as they move on the touch surface (paper).

All you need is a room with (at least) some light; a dark room will not work. Even room lighting gives the best results. Lights shinning from multiple directions onto the multitouch pad gives better results than lights from one direction.

FBI Fails to break PIMPS Android pattern Lock

On February 13, the FBI obtained a warrant to search a San Diego pimp’s Samsung Android phone. Ars Technica reports that the device was sent to one of the FBI’s computer forensic labs in Southern California, but technicians immediately encountered a problem before they could begin digging for evidence: They were unable to crack the Android’s pattern lock.

Dante Dears was sentenced to prison in 2005 after he pled guilty to being part of a group called “Pimpin’ Hoes Daily.” After his most recent release in May 2011 (he was released once before that in 2009, but quickly went back for three different parole violations), Dears went straight back to his old ways. While a GPS monitor prevented him from doing certain things, he found a way to continue pimping by using his droid. And he apparently picked one heck of a unique pattern lock for it.

The FBI techs had entered too many incorrect patterns into the phone, which made it go into complete lockdown mode. When this happens, the phone can only be accessed with the owner’s Google account credentials. Of course, given his history with the law, the owner of this particular device wasn’t about to oblige.

Due to his lack of cooperation, the FBI went back to a judge and requested that a warrant be served on Google, asking for a relevant list of information on Dears. The judge granted the warrant almost immediately. Google did not respond to Ars Technica regarding whether this type of information-supply to law enforcement is routine.

SEX COIN from the Roman Empire found it in the Thames

sex coin

The girl lay on a stone bed in the tiny cubicle, awaiting her next customer with weary resignation.

In Londinium, there was no shortage of men wanting a few moments of sexual pleasure: merchants, officials, freed slaves from around the Roman Empire and, of course, soldiers.

Sure enough, the flimsy curtain was drawn back and a Roman legionary entered the room. He handed over a small bronze token.

The girl looked at it. The image on the front depicted the act he required — it showed a woman face down on a couch and a man on top of her.

On the reverse, the number 14 referred to the price he had paid: 14 asses, the equivalent of a day’s pay for a labourer in the first century AD — not that the girl would see any of that money.

For the girl would have been a slave, possibly a native Briton captured in the rebellious north of the country — enslaving women was one Roman way of subjugating and humiliating these savage tribes.

Some ended up in Rome, where their fair skin and blonde hair could fetch a high price.

This slave’s body was now a commodity, part of the flourishing sex trade that helped sustain the Roman Empire.

The soldier’s business over, he probably returned to his camp, stopping to visit a tavern for some wine.

Or he may have preferred the local brew: Roman garrisons are known to have purchased beer from London’s pubs.

Meanwhile, the girl would have handed over the token to the brothel keeper — possibly a freed slave, a Roman or an enterprising Briton.

Somehow it ended up in the mud of the Thames where, 2,000 years later, it has recently been found by amateur archaeologist Regis Cursan with a metal detector.

He has donated it to the Museum of London, where it will now be on display for three months.

Curator Caroline McDonald believes it may be evidence of the seamier side of Roman life: ‘London was a supply base for the army. There would have been merchants going there from all around the empire, and part of the new economy that sprung up may have been the sex trade.’

She says that with so many single men around — legionaries signed up for 25 years and weren’t allowed to marry — brothels sprung up across Britain.

‘They were usually situated near the bath houses, and the army would have allowed soldiers this kind of outlet for their energy,’ says Caroline.

It is not the only evidence of the sex trade in Roman Britain.

Anonymous hacker charged for attack on US police websites

A man linked to notorious hacker collective Anonymous was charged on Monday with cyber attacks on police websites in the US state of Utah.

John Anthony Borell III, a 21-year-old resident of Ohio, faces a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and US$500,000 ($482,809) in fines if convicted of the two counts of computer intrusion outlined in a federal indictment.

“Borell hacked into protected computers without authorization on two occasions in January and intentionally caused damage to servers hosting websites for two Utah law enforcement agencies,” according to the federal indictment.

One target was a computer server hosting the Salt Lake City Police Department website and another was a website for the Utah Chiefs of Police Association, according to FBI agents that identified Borell as the hacker.

Borell was arrested after investigators linked him to Twitter messages taking credit for the cyber attacks, according to the FBI.

The criminal complaint described Borell as being associated with the “hacker-activist” network Anonymous, a loosely knit collective with no clearly defined leadership structure.

Japanese dance crew Wrecking Orchestra

This is Japanese dance crew Wrecking Orchestra Preforming a Tron inspired dance routine my guess is with the Iluminate dance suits designed by Miral Kotb http://iluminate.com

Miral Kotb created iLuminate when she united her background in dance and software engineering. She received a degree in Computer Science from Columbia University while studying dance at Barnard College. Upon graduation she worked as a senior software engineer at Bloomberg, LP, then entered the world of mobile application development. As a dancer/choreographer her work has been presented at different venues throughout New York City, London and Paris.

Miral didn’t see the overlap between her two worlds until she took a break from software development and started bringing her ingenuity to the dance studio. While exploring iPhone application development, the initial idea behind iLuminate emerged: wirelessly controlling lights on dancers bodies from the palm of your hand. She took her idea to the next level with the help of some of the best hardware and software engineers and consultants in the industry.

Man uses Google Earth to find long-lost mother

Separated from his family at age 5, Indian man uses the Web tool to track down the name of his village — and ultimately reunite with his mother.

Google Earth helped Saroo Brierley find the village he left as a child, right down to the waterfall he used to play in as a child.

Sometimes Google Earth can help you find your way home after decades of not knowing where home is.

That is what apparently happened for an Indian man who was separated from his family as a 5-year-old. Saroo Brierley tells BBC magazine that he was traveling with his older brother in 1986 when the two became separated. Brierley was accompanying his brother on a train trip when he fell asleep and awoke 14 hours later in the notorious slum of Calcutta. Without his brother.

At first, he lived on the streets, joining legions of children begging for their livelihood. Brierley would eventually be taken in by an orphanage and adopted by a couple in Australia.

“I accepted that I was lost and that I could not find my way back home, so I thought it was great that I was going to Australia,” he told the magazine.

But as he grew older, the desire to know where he came from also grew. With vivid memories of — but not the name — of the town he was born, he started searching the Internet for clues. Brierley multiplied the 14 hours he knew he had been on the train by the average speed of trains in India to determine how far he traveled that night. He then drew a circle around Calcutta and determined that Khandwa was the town he was looking for.

“When I found it, I zoomed down and bang, it just came up,” he said. “I navigated it all the way from the waterfall where I used to play.”

He would eventually make his way to Khandwa and locate a familiar house. The family had moved but he remembered their names. With the help of passers-by, Brierley was taken the house where is mother lived.

At first he did not recognize his mother, who was stunned into silence by his reappearance. She took him by the hand into her house.

“She had a bit of trouble grasping that her son, after 25 years, had just reappeared like a ghost.”

His older brother was not as fortunate; his body was found on the railroad tracks a few months after Brierley disappeared.
